Tell most people that you are planning on embarking on a wintertime adventure and you're likely to get the same response: "There's something wrong with you". Most people just don't get it. I, myself, understand it. In fact, I actually love adventuring during the winter and you should too. Not convinced? Well, here are my top 3 reasons why I love adventuring in winter.
1. Snow and Frozen Waterfalls
One of the more obvious reasons to love a wintertime adventure is the prospect of seeing some cool stuff that you can't see during other times of the year. I'm thinking of snow and frozen waterfalls here.
Have you ever witnessed a waterfall brought to a halt by the freezing temperatures? How about one of your favorite places shrouded in fresh snow? If not, you are severely missing out!
I can't think of many things that are as enchanting as some of the amazing sights you get in winter.
2. No Creepy Crawlies
Mosquitos, ticks, spiders, and snakes, oh my! All of these things can range from a nuisance to down-right dangerous. The great thing about winter, though, is that you don't have to worry about any of these! The threat of all these creepy crawlies diminishes as the temperatures plummet.
3. Fewer Crowds
How many times have you set out to find solitude in your favorite natural area, only to be disheartened by hoards of people? It's a growing problem in America's wild places. The best part of winter, however, is that the cold weather tends to keep people away. In fact, I've been able to find solitude in places that would otherwise be swarming with people. So get over your fear of a wintertime adventure and get out there!
